Bullion refers to a mass of precious metal, or the quantity of gold and silver, rather than value. Gold and silver bullion comes in bars, ingots, or plates, i.e. metal that is cast in the shape of a block for convenient handling. Precious metal is a naturally occurring metallic chemical element of high economic value, such as gold, silver, and platinum, i.e. any of the less common and valuable metals often used to make coins or jewelry.
Of all the precious metals, gold is the most popular as an investment.
Investors generally buy gold as a hedge or safe haven against any economic, political, social, or currency-based crises. These crises include investment market declines, inflation, war, and social unrest. Investors also buy gold during times of a bull market to gain financially.
